In June, Sunny Deol officially announced the highly anticipated Border 2, thrilling fans across the nation. He is set to reprise his iconic role from J.P. Dutta’s 1997 war epic Border. The sequel promises an action-packed cinematic experience and features a star-studded cast, including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. Now, the latest update reveals that production has officially begun, with the film’s makers sharing the first picture from the sets, featuring the clapboard.

Border 2 starts filming

The film is being produced by a powerhouse team, including Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. It is presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series, in association with JP Dutta’s J.P. Films, and directed by Anurag Singh. Border 2 is poised to carry forward the legacy of its legendary predecessor while delivering a grand, larger-than-life cinematic experience.

Set against a backdrop of patriotism and bravery, Border 2 aims to offer unparalleled action sequences, gripping drama, and emotional depth. Given the scale and grandeur of the project, it is already one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2026.

The original Border, released in 1997, starred Sunny Deol and was set against the backdrop of the 1971 Longewala battle. It told the gripping story of a small group of Indian soldiers holding off a large Pakistani strike force. J.P. Dutta, known as Bollywood’s maestro of war films, has dedicated much of his career to depicting military themes. After initially focusing on stories related to the Rajput community in western India, Dutta went on to create powerful war dramas like LOC: Kargil and Border, establishing himself as a master of the genre.
